Emma:
A grey cockatiel. Leg band indicates a hatch date of 1999.
Found by a teenage kid on a sidewalk in front of a school.
Emma had a broken leg, a broken wing, a damaged eye, and blood coming out of her nose.
Dr. McDole and a couple other doctors did multiple surgeries trying to fix her leg,
but it has permanent problems, so she still needs to wear a bandage.
Her damaged eye eventually shrunk, and needed to have treatment every day for a long time.
Now the eye does not need treatment. That one side is blind, but not painful.

Dr. McDole ended up keeping her, since Emma needed so much medical care,
and of course the doc fell in love with her while she was going through the
long periods of being nursed back to her current level of health.

Pippin:
Born in 2002, black and tan Min Pin (Miniature Pinscher).
Rescued at about 10 weeks old when severely ill.
Dr. took him in to nurse him back to health,
planning to find him a home as soon as he was well enough.
It took two months to get him healthy - obviously, he ended up staying with her!

As is typical for Min Pins, Pippin has a real tendency to get overweight,
so he is kept on a strictly measured amount of food and treats.

Pippin knows exactly when it's time for his evening treat,
and thinks he would keel over if he didn't get it.
